The CPU can upgrade from what the BIOS is compatible with limits. An update compatible with Sony VAIO PCV-RX572 is the following:
Intel P4 2.6 GHz 400MHz 478pin 512K CPU OEM $ 174.95
400 MHz front side bus

Check compatibility manually

You're not looking, the Board will only run as high as 400-MHz bus, ie, have any type of processor, replace 400FSB, you may still have some at 400FSB speed 2.4GHZ really strange, something that would be difficult to find dedicated, not to the high costs can be better and cheaper system, say, mention (faster), but a new board and CPU.

Matt, you can add not only a word processor because they use the same socket 478, there are a bus speed, the voltage must be considered, dip a 3 GHz Prescott in this forum could make the extra work with no results.

Replace it with the same processor, but not a change that does not often cause more problems than your mother smoke on board, I can not recommend it at all.
